YOGA ANUBHAVA SERIES

Antar Drishti Sadhana (Inner Visualization)

YOGA ANUBHAVA SERIES

ANTAR DRISHTI

DATES: 12TH–16TH DECEMBER 2022

TIME: 4:00–5:30 PM IST (Offline + Online)

Drishti means vision and antar means inner. When the eyes are withdrawn from outer objects and the gaze is turned inwards to see within – it is the experience of antar drishti.

Developing the ability to see with the eyes closed is an integral part of the yogic journey. In the Satyananda Yoga tradition, we commence and close every class with trying to see a point of light or a flame through the inner vision. However, the experience eludes many practitioners. Often, it remains a thought and does not become a real experience.

Inner visualization is a faculty of the brain and the psyche. If one creates a certain state of mind, emotion and prana – this faculty awakens. Just as one is able to write poetry, create a piece of art, or have a breakthrough in life by entering a certain zone of experience, it is also possible to develop the power of antar drishti. All that is needed is practice and understanding.

By gradually developing focused vision outside and then turning the gaze inwards through specific methods, one is ultimately able to see as clearly with the eyes closed as with the eyes open. For some this is achieved spontaneously and immediately and for others it may take years. Yet for every yoga sadhaka, it is worthwhile to consciously make an effort to develop antar drishti and explore its possibilities.

The practice helps to sharpen sense perceptions, find inner clarity through a better awareness of ourselves and our unconscious patterns, and also opens the door to creativity and wisdom.

The sessions will include preparatory practices of asana and pranayama, relaxation with yoga nidra, kaya sthairyam (body stillness), bahya and antar trataka, antar drishti meditation, discussions, questions and answers.
