According to the yogic sciences, our human form consists of building blocks that are responsible for how we conduct ourselves in the world and perceive the world. These are the tattwas. The word tattwa literally means ‘that-ness’ , signifying an essential element or principle. The tattwas that are functional in the perceivable realm are known as apara tattwas and those in the subtle realm are known as para tattwas. The apara tattwas are mainly 24, namely pancha mahabhoota (the five basic elements of earth, water, fire, air, space), pancha karmendriya (the five motor organs of feet, hands, speech, reproduction, excretion), pancha jnanendriya (the five senses of smell, taste, touch, vision, hearing), manah chatustaya (the fourfold mind consisting of manas, buddhi, chitta, ahamkara), tri guna (the three qualities of Nature: sattwa, rajas, tamas), Prakriti and Purusha (the essential dual principles). Understanding and experiencing these tattwas individually can open up a whole new level of perception about ourselves, our responses, judgements, conditions, interactions, and more. The heightened understanding leads us to use our faculties more efficiently and also to rise to a more refined state of existence. We will focus on this subject from April to September 2023 in the Yoga Anubhava programs. The four-day programs will consist of six sessions during which we will explore the tattwas through practices, talks and discussions. The sessions will be held both offline and online. You are welcome to stay at the ashram for the programs, as the subtle subject is best assimilated in the ashram environment. (Please fill out the ashram life form if you wish to stay at the ashram.)
