Likhita japa is the practice of repeatedly writing a mantra. The seemingly simple practice has profound effects on the mind and emotions. The slow and careful writing of the mantra, enhanced by its silent repetition and invocation of its divine attributes very quickly shifts the state of awareness and creates positive emotions such as trust, gratitude and admiration. As the hands and the organ of sight are active in likhita japa, the practice easily and efficiently develops power of concentration.
There are three ways to repeat a mantra: Mental repetition (repeating the mantra mentally in silence), Verbal repetition (repeating the mantra aloud), Likhita Japa (writing the mantra). Of all the methods, the scriptures say that Likhita Japa is the most effective.
