When our eyes are open, we are able to see objects that exist in the external space in front of the eyes. Similarly, there are images that can be seen in the inner space of the mind, or chidakasha.
'Chitta' means consciousness and 'akasha' means space. Therefore, chidakasha refers to the inner space of consciousness. It is the container of all memory and impressions, stored here in the form of symbols. These symbols are not nearly visual images but also carry energy which influences our thoughts, feelings, behaviour and actions. In the normal state of awareness, we are not conscious of these images even though they flash through our mind-space continuously. However, the mind can be trained to recognize these images and symbols, understand them and work with them.
Chidakasha Dharana is a meditative practice to observe the impressions in chidakasha, de-clutter the inner space, and consciously create positive impressions, there by bringing a transformation within. The practice enhances mental clarity, helps to connect with creativity and inspiration, and bestows inner calmness.
